Why choose this course?
Students will receive solid foundations in mathematics, statistics and data science techniques to become experts in risk assessment in several areas, such as insurance, finance, social security, etc. Besides a solid theoretical background, students will acquire practical skills, in part thanks to the involvement of national and international companies in seminars, theses and internships.

Educational objectives
This Course aims to develop skills to solve problems in uncertain contexts, such as the finance and insurance sectors. The course is divided into two curriculums. The actuarial-financial science curriculum focusses on risk management, while the data science for insurance and finance curriculum focusses on techniques for the analysis of large databases.

Career prospects
Graduates may work as actuaries, applied statisticians, risk managers, data science experts, financial analysts or insurance consultants in insurance companies, social security institutions, banks and consulting companies. They may equally choose to pursue a career in academia or as an actuary or statistician.

Final examination and degree
Graduates obtain a master’s degree (EQF 7) which certifies the skills acquired by the student, valid at national level and recognised at an international level. The final mark is given out of 110. The final examination consists of defending a thesis, on a specific topic, before a board of examiners.
