Competitive admission at national level with call for applications
Admission to this course is competitive and is conducted at a national level through an admission test
To enrol in this programme, you must meet the following requirements:
- Educational qualification: You must hold an upper secondary school diploma or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad
- If you have a foreign qualification, consult the information dedicated to International Students to verify the validity of your qualification and the specific entry requirements
- Admission test: You must pass a test established at national level by the Ministry as indicated in the Call for Application in the Admission Procedure section

The admissions process for the 2024/2025 academic year is now closed.
The rankings for the academic year 2025/2026 will be published in this section as soon as they become available.
TEST ARCHED
To be admitted to the course, you must take an entrance test called ARCHED TEST. Your score will determine your position in the ranking of the selection process for which you have registered.
To register for the ARCHED TEST at the University of Trieste, follow the steps outlined in the Admission Procedure tab.
Test format, structure and dates
The ARCHED TEST must be taken at the university you wish to attend, as you will only be able to use the result to enrol at the university where you took the test. You may take the test at multiple universities only if the test is scheduled on different dates.
The type of test adopted by the University of Trieste is the TESTARCHED@CASA, to be taken at home using your own digital devices. Before the test begins, make sure you have a valid ID document at hand.
Structure
The test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and has a total duration of 100 minutes. Specifically, the test is divided as follows:
- Reading comprehension: 10 questions to be completed in 20 minutes
- Knowledge acquired during your studies and knowledge of history (including art history): 10 questions to be completed in 20 minutes
- Logical reasoning: 10 questions to be completed in 20 minutes
- Drawing and representation: 10 questions to be completed in 20 minutes
- Physics and mathematics: 10 questions to be completed in 20 minutes
Scoring is as follows:
- 1 point for each correct answer
- -0.25 points for each incorrect answer
- 0 points for each unanswered question
Dates
The test dates set by the University of Trieste are:
- 25/07/2025 – 10:00 am
- 16/09/2025 – 10:00 am
The second test will take place only if there is still intake available after the first test. In that case, a specific notice will be published on the How to apply webpage.
Information for students with disabilities or specific learning difficulties
If you are a student with disability and/or specific learning difficulties, you can request the additional time allowed for these tests. Please send the relevant forms and documents specified in the Call for Application at least 10 days before the test to disabili.dsa@units.it.
Enrolment
Within deadlines
Access the Online Student Service (Esse3)
- Start the procedure for enrolment applications
Menu > Home > Enrolment
- Complete the required fields and upload the necessary documents:
- Valid identity document in PDF format (front and back)
If you log in using SPID, this will not be required - Supplementary enrolment form (at the bottom of this page)
- Passport-sized photo in JPEG format, NO SELFIES (refer to the requirements)
- Residence permit or proof of application (for non-EU citizens only)
- Valid identity document in PDF format (front and back)
- Pay the first instalment of university fees. This confirms your pre-enrolment.
Within 2 working days of payment, the university's digital services will be activated, limited to Microsoft Teams, to enable access to lectures.
- Wait for the confirmation email
Within a few days, you will receive an email confirming your enrolment. Your student number will then be visible in your Reserved Area on Esse3.
Within two working days of receiving confirmation of your enrolment, you will have full access to the University's digital services (including your institutional email account and the MyUniTS app).
Reallocation
If applicable
If you are eligible but not admitted in the ranking, you must submit a request for reconsideration and be admitted through the ranking updates to enrol.
How to express interest in the reallocation:
- Login the Online Student Service (Esse3) and follow Menu > Home > Admission Test (programmed access and master’s degrees)
- Select the reallocation application for the desired degree course
- Confirm the submission of the reallocation application
- Wait for the outcome of the ranking update, which will be published under Rankings and Updates.
If you are reallocated
You will need to complete the enrolment by following the procedure outlined in the previous paragraph.
- Read the Call for Applications and follow the instructions provided
- To enrol, you must follow 2 key steps in this order:
- Access the Online Student Service (Esse3), register to the Competition following this path: Menu > Home > Admission test (restricted-access and master degrees)
- Take the admission test/exam as described in the Call
- Wait for the publication of the ranking list: the date in on the Call. Your status may be one of the following:
- Admitted: you are in a position to enrol. Submit your application through the Online Student Service (Esse3) and pay the first instalment of tuition fees as indicated by the system
- Eligible but not admitted (if specified in the call): you are in a position to potentially be considered for vacancies or reassignment. Submit a reassignment application through the Online Student Service (Esse3) and monitor announcements regarding ranking updates
- Not admitted (if applicable): you did not reach the minimum score. You will not be able to enrol in the degree course
- Assessment of previous Academic Career
To have a previous academic career assessed, follow the procedures for special cases outlined in the Call for Applications by the deadline for submitting the enrolment application.
