Syllabus

Knowledge and understanding: The student must acquire knowledge suitable for interpreting signs and symptoms concerning the most frequent acute and chronic pathologies in the various stages of the pediatric age: infant, child, teenager. Know the stages of psychomotor development in the early years of life. Knowing how to deal with care problems in children with psychomotor retardation. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: The student must be able to apply knowledge of anatomy, biochemistry and genetics to understand the etiopathogenesis of the most frequent diseases of interest in physiotherapy. Autonomy of judgment: The student must be able to use the knowledge acquired to develop his own autonomy of judgment regarding the main clinical pictures. Communication skills: At the end of the course, the student will have to know and use appropriate technical and professional terminology and be able to correctly communicate information related to assistance issues. The lessons will be carried out by encouraging students to interact in order to learn scientific vocabulary, know how to structure questions and argue their theses. The questions proposed as an independent work include open questions in which the student will have to demonstrate the ability to re-elaborate the knowledge learned. Ability to learn: The ability to learn is stimulated by deepening the knowledge acquired during frontal lessons. Learning skills will be verified within the various assessment methods provided.

Physiology of pulmonary, gastroenterology and neurological systems

1. Normal neurological and psycomotor development in children. 2. Main problems related to children with severe development delay; 3. Arthritis in children: from septic artritis to Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis; Hyperlaxity syndromes in children. 4. To recognize and to treat properly the pain in children. 5. Cystic Fibrosis and other pulmonary diseases in children; 6. Somatic functional disorders in children.

1. Knowledge of the normal stages of neuro-psycho-motor development of the child: in particular the knowledge of the curves of the percentiles and of the Milani Comparetti card 2. Most frequent problems of the child with severe disability: in particular the gastroenterological problems which are very frequent in this population such as constipation, castroesophageal reflux and dysphagia. The problems will be analyzed starting from clinical cases. 3. Arthritis in children: from septic arthritis to juvenile idiopathic arthritis; Ligament hyperlaxity syndromes; 4. Recognize and treat pain in the child: particular attention will be given to children with mental retardation and with difficulty in verbalizing pain. 5. Cystic fibrosis and other conditions of respiratory insufficiency in the pediatric age with some hints of respiratory physiotherapy and non-invasive ventilation. 6. Lessons

Any changes to the methods described here, which are necessary to ensure the application of the safety protocols related to the COVID19 emergency, will be communicated on the Department, Study Program and teaching website.

The student's evaluation includes a written test in which 33 multiple choice questions are proposed. The student must demonstrate to be able to have acquired the basic knowledge of the study course. The score of the exam is attributed by means of a mark expressed out of thirty calculated according to the following scheme: 1 point for each correct question; 0 points for each question left blank; -0.25 points for each wrong question. To pass the exam (18/30) the student must reach at least the score of 18/30. To achieve the maximum score (30/30 cum laude), the student must instead reach a score> 30,5.
