Structured into the following modules:
Knowledge and understanding.
Students will have to acquire specific and targeted knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system outside of pregnancy and during pregnancy.
They will also have to acquire knowledge of the legislation regulating family law, parental responsibility, guardianship, consent to treatment, and the intervention of public authorities in favor of minors.
They will also have to know the main nursing models for taking care of the child/adolescent and their family as well as the peculiarities and methods for safe pharmacological therapy for the newborn and the child/adolescent
Finally, the students will have to acquire knowledge suitable for interpreting signs and symptoms regarding the most frequent acute and chronic pathologies in the various phases of the pediatric age: newborn, child, adolescent. Know the stages of psychomotor development in the first years of life.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
Students must be able to apply their knowledge of physiology to understand the main pathologies of pregnancy, of the reproductive system outside of pregnancy, and the mechanisms of action of contraceptives.
They must also be able to apply basic nursing care knowledge and define the care priorities of the newborn/child/adolescent in the hospital and local context. Finally, students must be able to apply knowledge of signs/symptoms regarding the most frequent acute and chronic pathologies in order to implement a correct clinical evaluation and adequate interventions.
Autonomy of judgement
The students must be able to use the knowledge acquired to provide guidance to pregnant women on the behavioral rules and checks to be carried out. They must be able to clinically recognize the main complications of pregnancy, the main clinical situations of gynecological pathology. They must be able to provide information on family planning, assisted reproduction and cancer prevention.
They must be able to define and pursue educational objectives relating to a healthy lifestyle, the therapeutic program and the identification of complications, taking into account cultural differences and the learning abilities of the child/adolescent and his family. They must be able to use strategies to encourage the family's decision-making autonomy and independence in the health choices of the newborn/child/adolescent. They will have to know how to recognize personalized care paths by establishing the care priorities of the newborn/child/adolescent and their family through a scientific problem-solving approach.
Finally, they must be able to recognize the main clinical pictures in pediatric age and implement congruent actions.
Communication skills
At the end of the course, students must be able to correctly communicate information relating to healthcare issues in the obstetrics-gynecology field and use appropriate terminology for effective communication with the newborn/child/adolescent and their family.
Ability to learn
At the end of the course, students must have developed the skills necessary to undertake subsequent refresher and specialization studies with a high degree of autonomy.
Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
Basics of pathophysiology of the respiratory, gastrointestinal and neurological systems.
The teaching concerns the main complications of pregnancy, with particular reference to infections of the TORCH complex and metrorrhagia of the first trimester. Furthermore, the most frequent pathologies of the female genital system, the causes and treatment of couple infertility, contraception and the prevention of cervical cancer are treated. At the end of the course the student must be able to understand if the pregnancy has an abnormal course, how to prevent infections that can compromise the pregnancy and the normal development of the fetus. Furthermore, the student must have knowledge of how the most frequent diseases of the female genital sphere manifest themselves, what the causes of the inability to conceive are and when assisted fertilization can be used. You must have knowledge of the possibility of using contraceptive methods and how to prevent cervical cancer.
From the point of view, however, of teaching paediatrics, we will deal in particular with: the normal stages of the child's neuro-psycho-motor development; the most frequent infectious diseases in pediatric age; knowing how to recognize and treat pain in children; the most common pneumological diseases of children; knowing how to evaluate the severity criteria in the child who visits the emergency room; The "non-functioning" child: somatic disorders in childhood
Nursing teachings, however, will take into consideration: organization of care and care models; Regulations for the protection of the family and the newborn/child; Illness and hospitalization; Newborn care; Detection of vital and auxological parameters; Early recognition of clinical worsening; Nursing care for the newborn/child with the most frequent alterations/problems; Main care procedures; Nursing pain management; Nursing management of drug therapy; Accidents at home and at school; Palliative care.
From the obstetric point of view: Professional profile and code of ethics of midwives; Areas of professional development; The gynecological patient between minor, major and outpatient surgery: analysis of specific needs: Specific care needs depending on the type of operation; Law 194/1978, between history and latest news; The pregnancy:
Organization of pregnancy and birth assistance; National and international guidelines in the surveillance of low-risk pregnancies; High-risk pregnancy in emergency spontaneous birth assistance; Prenatal diagnostics (ultrasounds-screening tests, amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling); The birth process; Birth points: from the maternity home to the hospital via home birth; Eutocic and dystocic birth: Spontaneous, operative and caesarean section births; Postpartum, any complications; The physiological newborn; The puerperium, breastfeeding (WHO Unicef classification - 10 steps to successful breastfeeding); Obstetric-gynecological triage; Acceptance and collection of data in an obstetrical-gynecological emergency room; Female genital mutilation (Classification)
The teaching material will be made available to the students.

The teaching materials, which the student will have to consult, will be uploaded to the Microsoft Teams platform.
Course attendance: attendance at the Integrated Course is mandatory. Those who have attended at least 75% of the lessons of the Integrated Course are admitted to take the exam.
Student reception: reception before and between lessons, or by appointment after direct contact with the individual module teacher.
The learning assessment is based on carrying out partial tests, the results of which will be published using the "Partial tests" IT tool provided by the Esse3 platform. A single final appeal is planned in which the Commission proceeds to verify the overall results of the integrated teaching and the related verbalization.
In the partial tests, to pass the exam relating to the module, the student must obtain a rating of ≥ 18. He/she cannot refuse the result of the partial test, but only the grade of the entire integrated course and, in this case, he/she will have to repeat all partial tests.
Each partial test follows the rules of the reference module:
- Gynecology and Obstetrics: The final evaluation includes a written test in which 33 multiple choice questions are proposed. The exam is based on the entire course program. The time available is 45 minutes. The vote is expressed in thirtieths. One point is awarded for each correct answer and 0 points for an incorrect or missing answer. Grades are assigned as follows: 30 cum laude: the student answered more than 30 questions correctly. Lower marks correspond to the number of questions answered correctly.
- Clinical nursing in the maternal and child area: The written test consists of 15 multiple choice questions with only one correct answer and 3 open-ended questions. Test duration max 40 minutes. The final grade is expressed in thirtieths according to the criteria below. Section with multiple choice questions with only one correct answer: 1 point if the student answers correctly, 0 points if he/she does not answer or if the answer is incorrect. Section with open-ended questions: max 5 points for each closed answer if the student demonstrates that he/she has acquired excellent knowledge of the topic covered and has answered exhaustively and with excellent language skills; a score lower than 5 is also expected for open answers (up to 1 point if the answer is incomplete, only partially correct and the topic is presented in a confused manner and with little or no linguistic ability, 0 points if/ student does not respond or does not demonstrate acceptable knowledge of the contents).
- Paediatrics: The student's assessment includes a written test in which 36 multiple choice questions are asked. The student must demonstrate that he is able to have acquired the basic knowledge of the study course. The score of the exam is attributed by means of a mark expressed out of thirty calculated according to the following scheme: 1 point for each correct question; 0 points for each question left blank or incorrect.
To pass the exam (18/30) the student must achieve at least a score of 21/36. To achieve the maximum score (30/30 cum laude), the student must instead achieve a score > 30.5
The partial test mark is valid until the extraordinary session of the same year.
The final grade of the integrated course exam derives from the weighted average, therefore weighted on the CFU of each module, obtained in the individual partial tests. For the purposes of defining the average, the value of 1 point is attributed to any honors obtained in the partial tests, i.e. the grade of 30 and honors in the partial tests corresponds numerically to the score of 31. To attribute honors to the final exam grade , it will be necessary for the weighted average obtained by the student in the partial tests relating to the various modules to be >30.5.
This teaching explores topics closely related to one or more objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations.
