Graduation: specific information

Final Examination

To be admitted to the final examination, you must have completed all exams and obtained the required credits at least 15 days before the graduation date. Credits related to the final examination are excluded.

In addition to uploading your thesis to Esse3, you must submit a hard copy to the President of the Graduation Committee at least 8 days before the graduation session.

The final examination involves the public discussion of a written thesis developed under the supervision of a supervisor and consists of two phases: the pre-graduation and the final graduation discussion.

Pre-Graduation

During the pre-graduation, you must present your thesis in a 40-45 minute public seminar before your thesis supervisor and the Pre-Graduation Committee, appointed by the Board of Studies.

The committee will send a report to the President, proposing an increase of maximum 6 points to the final grade and, if applicable, the awarding of honours.

Final Discussion (Graduation)

During the final discussion, you must present your thesis in 10-12 minutes before a Graduation Committee composed of 7 members, appointed by the Head of Department. You are encouraged to use slides to support your presentation.
The committee will evaluate your academic record, the content of your thesis, and your activities, determining the final grade also based on the assessment provided by the Pre-Graduation Committee.

Final Grade Calculation

The final grade, on a scale of 110, is calculated as follows:

  • Weighted average of exam grades
  • Up to 6 points assigned by the Graduation Committee
  • 6 points if you complete the required 180 CFU by the autumn session of the third year
  • 2 points for each year in which you achieve the required CFU before the start of the following academic year

Note: Additional points assigned beyond the weighted average of exam grades cannot exceed 10 points.

The committee may also decide to award honours based on your academic record, achievements and thesis.
