- Take the assessment test
- Complete the enrolment procedure on the Online Student Service (Esse3) and pay the 1st instalment of fees
To enrol in this programme, you must meet the following requirements:

- If you have yet to obtain the required qualification
You can request an assessment of your preparation even if you have not yet obtained the required qualification.
Enrollment for this course is open from April 20, 2026 to October 2, 2026.
TOLC-S
To enrol in the course, applicants must verify their knowledge through the TOLC-S a mandatory, non-selective test administered by the CISIA (Inter-University Consortium for Integrated Access Systems). To take the TOLC, you must register via the CISIA website.
For this programme, the TOLC-I test is also considered valid.
- Who must take the TOLC?
The TOLC is mandatory for all applicants submitting an enrolment application.
You may be exempt from taking the TOLC if:
- You have already taken the test at another University and met the minimum score required by the degree course.
- You already hold a degree.
- Structure of the test
The TOLC-S consists of 55 multiple-choice questions divided into six main sections:
- Mathematics: 20 questions (50 minutes)
- Logical reasoning, problem-solving, and reading comprehension: 15 questions (30 minutes)
- Biology: 5 questions (10 minutes)
- Chemistry: 5 questions (10 minutes)
- Physics: 5 questions (10 minutes)
- Earth Sciences: 5 questions (10 minutes)
There is also a final section of the test on English language proficiency, consisting of 30 questions to be answered in 15 minutes. This part of the test does not contribute to the total score.
- Assessment
Scoring system:
- 1 point for each correct answer
- -0.25 points for each incorrect answer
- 0 points for unanswered questions
For the English section only: incorrect and unanswered responses receive 0 points.
- Passing the test
The test is considered passed if you achieve a total score of at least 15 points in the sections:
- "Mathematics", "Logical reasoning, problem-solving and reading comprehension" and "Physics" for TOLC-S.
- "Mathematics", "Logic" and "Reading Comprehension" for TOLC-I.
The English language proficiency part of the test does not contribute to the total score.
If your score is below or if you fail to take the TOLC, you will be assigned an Additional Education Requirement (OFA). These requirements are designed to help you address any gaps before starting your academic journey.
To fulfill the OFA it is necessary to:
attend at least 75% of the remedial tutoring sessions, which generally take place between October and December, and pass the Mathematical Analysis I exam.
Formats, dates and registration
You can take the test at any University, and it will also be valid for the University of Trieste. TOLC-S and TOLC-I taken in 2025 and 2026 are valid, provided they have not been used for enrolment in any degree course. For complete and detailed information on the TOLC procedures, please visit the CISIA website.
If you have taken the test more than once, only the test with the best score will be considered. Please note that passing the test is not required for enrollment. If you do not pass the test, you will still be enrolled; however, you will be assigned an OFA (Additional Learning Obligation), which requires you to attend remedial tutoring.
Formats
- TOLC@UNI: on-site, in the computer labs of the university where the TOLC is held
- TOLC@CASA: using your own IT equipment, from home
In both cases, remember to have a valid identity document at hand.
