General Guidelines
There are two main types of internships:
- Curricular internship (stage), which you can undertake during your studies, with or without the recognition of academic credits.
- Extracurricular internship (post-graduate), which you can carry out after obtaining your degree.
You can undertake the internship in private companies or public institutions, either in Italy or abroad.
The activation of the curricular internship is managed by the Internship Service of the Department (stage@deams.units.it).
Curricular Internship
At least 200 hours of internship must be completed and validated by the company tutor to register the internship. The hours must be spread over a period of no less than 2 months and no more than 12 months (extended to 24 months for individuals with disabilities).
Generally, the internship is carried out and registered in the 3rd year. However, you may choose to do it during the summer break between the 2nd and 3rd year, provided it is approved by the Coordinator and recorded in the 3rd year.
- What to do BEFORE starting the internship
- To activate the internship, the University must have an Agreement in place with the host organisation or company. Contact the Internship Service (stage@deams.units.it) to request the list of partner organisations.
If the host company does not have an Agreement, you will need to request a new one:- To the Department's Internship Service, if the company or organisation is interested in signing an Agreement exclusively for students belonging to the Department.
- To the Career Service office, for a new Agreement involving two or more Departments.

If the organisation where you wish to carry out the internship is not yet a partner, contact the Career Service office to establish a new agreement.
- Complete and submit the documentation provided by the Internship Service:
- Training Project, including the training objectives and activities involved in the internship.
- Risk Assessment Form, completed and signed by the company's Employer or Health and Safety delegate.
The Training Project must include the following details:
- Academic Tutor (selected by the student): This is the academic supervisor for the internship, responsible for following the Training Project, offering advice and guidance and assessing the alignment of the internship's training objectives with the study programme. Generally, this tutor is a professor of a discipline relevant to the internship activities or a professor with whom the student has already passed an exam.
- Company Tutor (selected by the host organisation or company): This person oversees the intern's integration into the host organisation or company.
Please note that the timeline for submitting documents affects the start date of the internship. Internships are activated twice a month:
- For Training Projects submitted by the first working day of the month, the internship can start on the first working day of the second half of the month.
- For Training Projects submitted by the 15th of the month, the internship can start on the first working day of the following month.
The same timelines apply in the case of an internship extension.

- What to do AFTER finishing the internship
- Have the company tutor and the university tutor complete and sign the documents provided by the Internship Service, namely the Final Certificate and the Questionnaire. These documents must be sent by the hosting organisation via certified email (PEC) to deams@pec.units.it.
- Send the Student Evaluation, completed and signed by you, to the Internship Service at stage@deams.units.it.
All documents must be submitted within one week of the internship’s conclusion.
Once the completed documents are received, the Internship Service will initiate the internal administrative procedures for awarding the CFU.
In the event of early termination of the internship for valid reasons, credit allocation is subject to the academic tutor’s evaluation. The tutor will assess whether you have achieved the internship’s educational objectives and complied with the minimum required duration of 200 hours over at least two months.

Alternatives to the Internship
The internship can be replaced by:

- A laboratory
