Syllabus

D1. Knowledge and understanding: the student must know the history of implantology, the mechanisms of osseointegration, implant systems in all their aspects. Be able to recognize implant systems and understand implant surgery techniques.

D2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: the student must be able to propose a treatment plan with the use of osteointegrated implants. Knowing how to apply the indications and contraindications to the use of implantology. Recognize and describe the principles of therapy of complications in implantology.

D3. Making judgements: the student will be able to judge the diagnostic, clinical, classification and operative elements for the resolution of implantological surgical problems. It is considered necessary to be able to judge the implications that infections following the insertion of the implants may have in the surgical field. Knowing how to express an opinion on the radiological diagnosis in implant surgery and in the choice of techniques for augmenting implant sites.

D4. Communication skills: the student must be able to clearly explain the concepts acquired in point D1, be able to describe the individual surgical techniques inherent in implantology and the general information on flaps and sutures, know and know how to use the surgical instruments for inserting and managing the installations. Know the preparatory notions of topographic and radiological anatomy of the maxillofacial system. Knowing how to communicate the prosthetic options to the patient following the insertion of osteointegrated implants and the consequent maintenance therapy.

D5. Learning skills: the student must be able to independently explore the topics covered. In relation to these pathologies, the student must demonstrate that he has learned the possibilities of prosthetic rehabilitation of patients who have undergone demolition operations on the jaws or who require bone or mucous grafts for implantological purposes.

Know the preparatory notions of topographical anatomy, the current diagnostic guidelines aimed at recognizing the main clinical and radiological lesions of the maxillofacial apparatus and systemic surgical pathologies.

The exam is based on the whole program of the course. The knowledge acquired will be verified through a written exam with multiple choice and open questions. The evaluation grid adopted is the following: - Excellent (30 - 30 cum laude): excellent knowledge of the topics, excellent language skills, excellent analytical skills; the student is able to brilliantly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. - Very good (27 - 29): good knowledge of the topics, remarkable language skills, good analytical skills; the student is able to correctly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. - Good (24-26): good knowledge of the main topics, good command of the language; the student shows an adequate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. - Satisfactory (21-23): the student does not show full mastery of the main subjects of the teaching, even if he/she possesses the fundamental knowledge; however, she shows satisfactory language skills and sufficient ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. - Sufficient (18-20): minimal knowledge of the main teaching topics and technical language, limited ability to adequately apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. - Insufficient: the student does not have an acceptable knowledge of the contents of the various topics of the programme.
A single final test in which knowledge and skills relating to all modules are ascertained, even if assigned to different teachers (with respect for the teaching load which must be proportionate to the CFU)
