Syllabus

The aim of the integrated course is for students to acquire:
1) Knowledge and understanding skills: a thorough knowledge of the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, treatment and prognosis of diseases of the oro-maxillo-facial district and systemic diseases that may involve the oral district, the basic principles of antibiotic therapy with particular regard to the main bacterial odontostomatologic infections, recognize the main dermatologic diseases of hospital interest.
2 ) Applied knowledge and comprehension skills: acquiring the theoretical basis to know how to use and read data from the main diagnostic, instrumental and laboratory examinations, and intra- and extra-oral objective examination to solve clinical cases of oral, dermatological and infectious interest.
3 ) Autonomy of judgment, acquiring one's own integrated view of pathologies of the oral cavity which, starting from the assumption that many of them may represent the localization of systemic pathologies, leads to a unified, albeit articulated, conception of the state of health, with the ability to foresee the realistic consequences of the simplest pathological situations and to know how to manage them diagnostically and therapeutically; judge the most appropriate antibiotic therapy for a given pathogen and for a given patient; describe elementary skin lesions.
4) Communication skills, getting used to exposition, in the classroom, of concepts required by the lecturer, in a stimulating and interactive teaching environment. Students will always be urged to keep in mind the need for scientifically rigorous exposition and communication with colleagues and simple, yet comprehensive, with patients and their families. They will be stimulated to express themselves in correct and essential language by describing diagnostic and therapeutic choices to frame clinical cases of oral, dermatological and infectious interest.
5) Ability to learn: during the lectures, reference will mainly be made to the recommended texts, but students will be urged to consult several of them, citing the sources of the information expounded. The topics covered will always be approached from different points of view so that the student can form a clear and complete opinion.

In-depth knowledge of biology and genetics, histology, human and dental anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pathology and pathophysiology, pharmacology, pathological anatomy, diagnostic imaging and psychiatry. In order to take the examination, the student must have passed the following integrated courses included in the syllabus: C.I. Pathological Anatomy, C.I. Anaesthesiology and Pharmacology, C.I. Medical and Surgical Sciences, C.I. Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy, C.I. Neurology and Psychiatry.

SPECIAL DENTAL PATHOLOGY
The contents of the course concern the etiopathogenesis, the clinical and instrumental diagnostic pathways and the therapy of oral diseases with genetic, reactive, infectious, autoimmune and neoplastic etiologies.
It will also be analyzed the main pathologies affecting other districts and which can foster the presence of oral manifestations (dermatological, rheumatological, metabolic, solid neoplastic and haematological diseases), as well as oral lesions induced by topical and systemic pharmacological treatments.
DERMATOLOGY
Description of elemental lesions and high-impact pathology of dermatology. elemental skin lesions: melanoma, psoriasis, behcet disease, sclerodermia, acne inversa, sclerodermia, connettitis, bollous diseases.
INFECTIOUS DISEASES
Elements of epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and antimicrobial therapy of the major syndromes / infectious diseases of interest in dentistry

Conventional lectures.
Any changes to the methods described herein, which may be necessary to ensure the application of COVID19 emergency-related safety protocols, will be communicated on the DSM, Course of Study and teaching websites.

Lessons will be recorded and stored on Teams platform.

Individual exams are based on knowledge of the entire course syllabus.
Verification of knowledge learned will be done through a written exam for the oral pathology and dermatology modules, and a written exam (multiple choice quizzes) followed by an oral exam for the infectious diseases module. The final exam grade for the integrated course is derived from the weighted average, thus weighted on the CFUs of each module, obtained in the individual subtests. For the purpose of defining the average, any honors obtained in the partial tests are given the value of 1 point, i.e., the grade of 30 and honors in the partial tests corresponds numerically to the score of 31. In order to award honors to the final exam grade, it will be necessary that the weighted average obtained by the student in the partial tests related to the various modules is >30.5.
The evaluation grid adopted is as follows:
- Excellent (30 - 30 cum laude): excellent knowledge of the topics, excellent language property, excellent analytical ability; the student is able to brilliantly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Very good (27 - 29): good knowledge of topics, remarkable language property, good analytical ability; the student is able to correctly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Good (24-26): good grasp of the main topics, fair ownership of language; the student shows adequate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Satisfactory (21-23): the student does not show full mastery of the main topics of the teaching, although he/she possesses the fundamental knowledge of them; however, he/she shows satisfactory properties of language and sufficient ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Sufficient (18-20): minimal knowledge of the main topics of the teaching and technical language, limited ability to adequately apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.- Insufficient: the student does not possess acceptable knowledge of the contents of the different topics of the program.

This course explores topics closely related to one or more goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs).
