Description and Purpose of the Internship
As part of the educational programme, one-third of the credits required by the study plan (60 CFU) are allocated to internship activities and professional development. The internships are designed to help you develop and consolidate the concepts learned during the teaching semesters by putting them into practice.
The main objective is to provide a solid technical and professional preparation, covering all aspects related to risk assessment, management, and communication. Internship activities take place both within Public Administration services, such as Health Authorities and Regional Environmental Protection Agencies, and in private companies and professional firms engaged in risk assessment and management.
Opportunities and Host Organisations
In the first year, internship activities focus on workplace health and safety and take place within the Workplace Prevention and Safety Services of Healthcare Companies and the Prevention and Protection Services of Regional Health Service Companies.
In the second year, internships focus on environmental protection and food safety. You will have the opportunity to undertake an internship at the Public Health and Hygiene Services, the Food Hygiene and Nutrition Services, the Veterinary Food Hygiene Services for Animal-Origin Products, as well as at the Public Health and Hygiene Services of the Prevention Departments. The internship can also be carried out at the Regional Environmental Protection Agency’s local services.
The third year includes an extended internship, lasting approximately 750 hours, which can be completed in affiliated public and private companies, such as consultancy firms, corporate prevention and protection services, and trade associations.
Tutors
Each internship is supervised by an academic tutor, who will work with you to identify the most suitable organisations to meet your training needs.
Internship tutors will guide you throughout the practical experience, monitoring your progress and providing support in developing the required skills. It is essential to maintain constant contact with both academic and internship tutors to ensure the proper conduct of the internship, the achievement of its objectives, and a thorough understanding of the training topics.
Procedures
Before starting your internship, you must participate in preparatory activities, including information sessions and workshops to acquire methodological and practical skills, such as the use of risk determinant measurement tools and sampling procedures.
Guided visits and practical exercises are also organised to consolidate theoretical knowledge and develop soft skills (time management, public speaking, etc.).
Locations
The degree course offers a wide range of internship opportunities at over 50 locations across the region. Students can gain training experience in both the public sector (e.g., healthcare companies, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Regional Environmental Protection Agency) and private companies (prevention and protection services, environmental quality and safety offices, trade associations, consultancy firms).
