KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Upon completion of the course, the student should demonstrate adequate knowledge of the characteristics, indications and methods of use of dental materials. He/she will have to demonstrate knowledge of the planning of the treatment course and therapeutic interventions for primary and secondary prevention. The student will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in periodontal re-evaluation and maintenance of the patient and theoretical and practical knowledge of mechanical and manual instrumentation of nonsurgical periodontal therapy.
He/she will have to demonstrate knowledge of the indications and protocols related to the 'application of various professional prophylaxis media (fluoride, sealants, desensitizers), the application of appropriate media to highlight bacterial plaque, and the polishing of conservative restorations. The student should demonstrate knowledge of the treatment of pediatric, orthodontically treated and disabled patients.
He/she should demonstrate knowledge and ability to use the various epidemiological indices related to carious and periodontal pathology.
APPLIYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the course, the student should be able to independently manage the therapeutic course of the clinical case in the context of primary and secondary prevention. He/she should be able to manage the periodontal reevaluation of the clinical case as well as nonsurgical periodontal instrumentation with ultrasonic instrumentation. The student will dor be able to provide for the application of plaque detectors, fluoroprophylaxis (with varnishes and gels) and sealant materials by applying independently and different clinical protocols. Will need to be able to independently manage the operative session of the pediatric/orthodontic patient.
He/she will need to demonstrate knowledge of the indications for polishing conservative restorations and be able to apply different protocols by independently using the rubber dam. He/she will need to demonstrate knowledge of clinical and home management of different mobile and adhesive prosthetic restorations and be able to apply the different professional and home protocols for maintenance and prevention.
MAKING JUDGEMENTS
At the end of the course, the student should be able, by providing reassessment, to thoroughly analyze the periodontal clinical case and manage it using the best protocols according to the most up-to-date Guidelines. He/she should be able to independently analyze and manage the treatment protocol of the carioreceptive patient. He/she should be able to make rational decisions in the professional and home treatment course of the pediatric/orthodontic patient and the patient with conservative amalgam and composite restorations and with removable prostheses.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Upon completion of the course, the student should demonstrate the ability to expound the acquired knowledge with appropriate scientific terminology.
LEARNING SKILLS
Upon completion of the course, the student should demonstrate the ability to implement the main management protocols independently, to recognize and know how to use the main periodontal instrumentation in the periodontal/orthodontic/pediatric/karyoreceptive patient. To know the best working positions in relation to ergonomics. To recognize and prepare the correct instrumentation as needed.
No prerequisites are required.

The internship is a conventional course delivered entirely in-person and involving practical activities.
1 CFU of internship is equivalent to 25 hours of in-person activities.
The internship takes place at the outpatient clinics of the Stomatology Clinic at the Maggiore and Cattinara Hospitals in Trieste (ASUIGI) and at the outpatient clinic of Pediatric Stomatology at IRCSS Burlo Garofolo.
Any changes to the modalities described here that become necessary to ensure the implementation of COVID19 emergency-related safety protocols will be communicated on the department, course, and teaching websites.
There is no other information
The student's evaluation includes a practical and oral test in which a clinical case is to be performed with subsequent discussion in an interview.
During the oral interview the student must demonstrate that he/she has achieved the expected learning outcomes on a theoretical basis.
During the practical case, the student must demonstrate success in solving paradigmatic cases of clinical practice.
The examination score is awarded by a grade expressed in thirtieths that takes into account the ongoing evaluations of practical internships.
The examination is passed with a grade of 18/30.
To achieve the maximum mark of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all topics covered and must have correctly solved clinical cases.
The evaluation grid adopted is as follows:
- Excellent (30 - 30 cum laude): very good knowledge of the topics, very good ownership of language, very good analytical skills; the student is able to brilliantly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Very good (27 - 29): good knowledge of topics, remarkable language property, good analytical ability; the student/ess is able to correctly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Good (24-26): good knowledge of main topics, fair command of language; the
student/ess shows adequate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Satisfactory (21-23): the student/ess does not show full mastery of the main topics of the teaching, although she/he possesses the fundamental knowledge; however, she/he shows satisfactory properties of language and sufficient ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Sufficient (18-20): minimal knowledge of the main topics of the teaching and technical language, limited ability to adequately apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Insufficient: the student does not possess acceptable content knowledge of the various topics of the program.
No partial tests are scheduled.
