Syllabus

Knowledge and understanding
At the end of the course, the student will have to demonstrate knowledge of the main practical procedures and tools for polishing amalgam and composite restorations.
It will also have to demonstrate the techniques and tools for polishing and maintaining prosthetic devices. The student will have to demonstrate knowledge of the procedures and materials for external bleaching and the legislation of the same. He will have to demonstrate the procedures of the different protocols for different clinical cases.

Applying knowledge and understanding
At the end of the course, the student should be able to recognize and use the main tools and techniques for polishing the amalgam and composite restorations as well as knowing and recognizing the equipment suitable for maintaining prosthetic devices.
The student should be able to recognize the difference between the different whiteners and the various whitening procedures and to know the various legislative aspects of the subject. The student should be able to apply the right protocol according to the clinical case.

Macking Judgement
At the end of the course, the student should be able to analyze and reconstruct several protocols for several clinical cases besides knowing how to evaluate the different polishing procedures.

Communication Skills
At the end of the course, the student must demonstrate that he / she is able to expose the acquired knowledge with the correct scientific terminology

Learning ability
At the end of the course, the student must demonstrate that he / she is able to independently choose the different instrumentation for the different subject procedures and to independently choose the right protocol for several clinical cases.

In order to be able to follow the course properly, students must have been enabled to use sonic and manual instruments. Knowledge of restorative and prosthetic materials is required.

1. Restoration of amalgam and composite restorations
- Amalgam materials: composition of dental amalgams, mixing phases
-Lucidation: objectives, operating phases, choice of tools and materials
-Material composites: features and properties
-Lucidation: objectives, operating phases, choice of tools and materials

2.Lining of prosthetic artifacts:
- Features of different prosthetic structures: mobile prosthesis, fixed prosthesis, fixed prosthesis on implants
-Materials and polishing tools of different prosthetic structures: goals, operational phases

3. External dentition bleaching:
-Tipology of whitening: home or professional
-The properties of home whitening materials: chemical composition, properties, modes of action
- Characteristics of professional whitening materials: chemical composition, properties, and action modes
- Evaluation of the clinical case
- Operational procedures: operational phases, tools and materials to be used, post-treatment indications

4. Dental Hygiene Operational Protocols:
- Operating protocol for treating the patient with gingivitis: treatment and scheduled reminders
- Operating protocol for the treatment of the carioreceptive patient: treatment and scheduled reminders
- Operating protocol for treating the patient with periodontal disease: mild, moderate, severe periodontitis
- Operating protocol for patient treatment in periodontal support: goals, treatment and programmed recalls

Frontal lessons are held in the classroom with the possibility of practical exercises

Any changes to the methods described here, which become necessary to ensure the application of the safety protocols related to the COVID19 emergency, will be broadcasted by the teacher and published on the websites of the Department of Medical Sciences.

Verification of the results will be by oral examination.
Knowledge of the main goals will be verified through general questions, in which the student will have to state the lessons learned by demonstrating that he has understood them according to a scientific rationale.
The student will also be faced with the need to interpret individual situations proposed by the teacher and solve them using different protocols.
At least 4 appeals per academic year are guaranteed
