Structured into the following modules:
Knowledge and understending
The student should show mastery of the knowledge about non-surgical periodontal treatment. It will have to demonstrate the techniques and therapeutic tools illustrated during the course. The student must demonstrate knowledge of the directions for surgical treatment, the most important periodontal surgery and the periodontal support treatment. It will have to demonstrate the general principles of periodontal surgery and the clinical signs of recognition of periodontal disease exacerbation. The student must demonstrate the ability to recognize the tools available to the dental hygienist and in particular the manual tools needed to remove the plaque as well as the main methods of sharpening them. The student will have to demonstrate how to recognize and treat the dentinal hypersensitivity and to provide information on the properties of the antiseptics on the market, their characteristics and indications of use.
Applying knowledge and understanding
The student must demonstrate possession of the ability to use acquired knowledge proving to reason according to the logical specificity of the discipline. He will have to be able to identify the functional correlations between multiple therapies and therapeutic tools, extract and synthesize the acquired information about the instrument or technique in question. At the end of the course, the student will need to be able to analyze and reconstruct different and interpretative and therapeutic options regarding the diagnosis and therapeutic setting of gingivitis. He will need to know how to choose between different sharpening techniques and correctly indicate the use of antiseptics.
Making Judgements
The student must have ability to use acquired knowledge proving to reason according to the logical specificity of the discipline.
Communication skills
At the end of the course, the student will have to demonstrate that he is able to evaluate the different therapeutic options and have acquired an adequate scientific language in order to transmit and be able to work in teams. It must demonstrate that it is able to expose the subject matter of the course using the correct terminology.
Learning Skills
At the end of the course, the student must demonstrate that he / she is able to independently evaluate the clinical signs of the disease and the presence of factors indicating the state of health or the reactivation of the disease. The student must demonstrate that he is able to find and learn autonomously the variations and updates regarding the subjects of the course.
To successfully complete the course, the student must be able to perform the skills required in the previous module (DENTAL HYGIENE SCIENCE 1) and possess the fundamentals of periodontology, with the passing of the expected theoretical examination. The student must be able to know basic periodontal protocols.
