KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student should demonstrate understanding of the basics of primary prevention of oral diseases and the basics of nonsurgical periodontal therapy (ultrasonic instrumentation). He/she will have to demonstrate understanding of the performance of the periodontal objective examination and compilation of the relevant chart. The student will need to demonstrate knowledge of the patient care approach through learning and how to relate to the person being cared for. He/she will have to demonstrate knowledge of how to perform a proper history taking with special reference to the patient's systemic diseases and the correct concepts of chairside ergonomics.
He/she will have to demonstrate adequate knowledge of proper dento-parodontal anatomy, periodontal indices and major screening tests.
The student will need to demonstrate knowledge of risk prevention and the basics of cross-infection prevention. He/she will also need to demonstrate knowledge of outpatient structuring of how to use dental management software.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student should be able to independently choose appropriate instrumentation for periodontal probing. He/she should be able to independently choose home and correct instruments for the patient's motivation as well as those suitable for highlighting bacterial plaque.
The student should be able to rationally compile and interpret a PSR and a periodontal chart and interpret and compile an IP and a BoP.
He/she should be able to recognize useful instrumentation for tartar ablation and periodontal debridement.
He/she will need to be able to read and interpret a history and recognize the level of risk relative to oral disease and nonsurgical periodontal therapy. He/she will have to recognize the patient in need of INR and antibiotic prophylaxis of bacterial endocarditis.
Upon completion of the course, the student should know how to implement all risk prevention and cross-infection prevention protocols.
MAKING JUDGMENTS
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to analyze the PSR and periodontal chart in addition to assessing the oral hygiene needs of the individual patient. He/she should be able to recognize the instrumentation to properly perform the PSR and periodontal chart as well as the differences between various scalers and the appropriate means to highlight bacterial plaque. He/she will need to be able to implement protocols for the prevention of cross-infection. He/she will need to be able to analyze the patient's history to recognize systemic conditions and medications that might interfere with instrumentation. He/she will need to be able to indicate the appropriate means and aids for proper iod according to the patient's different levels of risk.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
Upon completion of the course, the student should demonstrate that he/she is able to expound the acquired knowledge with appropriate scientific terminology.
LEARNING SKILLS.
Upon completion of the course, the student should demonstrate the ability to implement the main management protocols independently, to recognize and know how to use the main periodontal instrumentation (probes and scalers), and to know the best working positions in relation to ergonomics. Will need to demonstrate adequate knowledge of paorodontal anatomy, oral cavity and tooth anatomy.
He/she will have to demonstrate adequate knowledge of the processes formation and structuring of dental plaque as well as pathogenic processes related to carious and periodontal pathology.
He/she will have to demonstrate knowledge of anatomical concepts and principles of the basic disciplines.

A propaedeuticity is required to enter the exam.
The student must have passed the Dental Hygiene Science 1 integrated course examination.

The internship is a conventional course delivered entirely in-presence and includes pre-clinical and practical activities.
1 CFU of internship is equivalent to 25 hours of in-person activities.
The internship takes place at the outpatient clinics of the Stomatology Clinic at the Maggiore Hospital of Trieste (ASUIGI).
Simulation exercises in a fully equipped classroom (pre-clinical classroom model) are also scheduled.
Any changes to the modalities described herein that become necessary to ensure the implementation of COVID19 emergency-related safety protocols will be communicated on the department, course and teaching website.

There is no other information

The student assessment includes an oral and practical test in which an oral interview and practical cases to be solved are provided.
During the oral interview, the student must demonstrate that he/she has achieved the expected learning outcomes on a theoretical basis ()
During the practical case, the student must demonstrate success in solving paradigmatic cases of clinical activity.
The examination score is awarded by a grade expressed in thirtieths.
The examination is passed with a mark of 18/30.
To achieve the maximum mark of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all topics covered and must have correctly solved clinical cases.
The evaluation grid adopted is as follows:
