In the course GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY it will be provided the basic tools to deal with the wide panorama of studies and research in General Psychology. Students will be offered a study path on the main topics of General Psychology, with a particular focus on the typical functioning of the cognitive processes, such as, for instance, perception, attention and memory, and their role in the context of health professions.
In the course BIOETHICS it will be discussed the reasons of why to deal with a course in Bioethics in the Dental Care Degree Course (difference between bioethics and deontology). Birth and development of bioethics in a complex and constantly evolving context (from tolerance to pluralism, from paternalism to autonomy). Ethical principles (autonomy, charity, not maleficence, justice). Major issues according to different approaches: beginning of the life; end-of-life; organ harvesting and transplantation; clinical trials; ethical issues relating to genetics; care giver’s vaccinations; the pandemic experience.
The course PEDAGOGY will cover the following topics:
- Pedagogical lexicon: pedagogy, education, training
- Pedagogical foundations and implications in the educational relationship of health and social services;
- the education-relationship-resilience-health links: the adversity of the disease, the pathogenesis and salutogenesis approach, the construct of resilience from a biopsychosocioecological perspective; the healthcare professional as a resilience tutor;
- the management of the relationship with the patient and the professional team: communication micro-skills for the educational relationship. Micro-training on skills for an intentional communication;
- the integrated work in multidisciplinary team;

GENERAL PEDAGOGY
- lectures supplemented by discussions;
- viewing, analysis and discussion of film clips;

- individual and group assignments on specific topics will be evaluated and considered for the final exam.
Any changes to the methods described here, which may be necessary to ensure the application of the security protocols related to the COVID19 emergency, will be communicated on the website of the Department.
GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY
The evaluation includes a written exam by means of a multiple-choice test (8 questions x 1,5 points) and short open questions (3 questions x 2 points and 4 questions x 3 points). There are no penalties for wrong answers in the multiple choice test.
To pass the exam, and therefore to obtain a grade of at least 18/30, students must demonstrate that they have acquired a sufficient basic knowledge and that they are able to correctly use the specific discipline terminology.
To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, students must instead demonstrate that they have acquired an excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course.
BIOETHICS
Oral exam. The student will have to identify and argue the main ethical problems connected to a health practice or a clinical situation
GENERAL PEDAGOGY
The student's evaluation includes a written test which focuses on the topics covered in class, the prescribed bibliography and secondary texts and sources available in Moodle. The examination will last 60 minutes and will consist of:
- 10 multiple choice questions aim at verifying knowledge of the elements characterizing the teaching content,
- 1 open question aiming at testing the depth and breadth of the student’s knowledge, to assess the students’ skills to critically analyze, discuss and evaluate the main themes of the course and to ascertain their ability to structure/articulate an argument and communicate what they have learnt and reflect on it.
The score of the exam is expressed in thirtieths and it is calculated on the basis of the sum of scores of the multiple-choice question (1 per question for a total of 10 points), the open questions (10 points per question) and the individual assignment (10 points) . To pass the exam, the student must achieve a score of 18/30. To achieve the maximum score (30/30 cum laude), the student must answer all the questions correctly and prove the ability to develop appropriate arguments and support reflections on educational practices starting from the course contents.
The individual and group assignments by the students will result in the reduction of one or more open questions in the final exam. During the classes, the teacher will give detailed information to attending students on this aspect.
