Syllabus

To provide cognitive and methodological instruments to correctly summarize and present epidemiological data, to know the peculiarity of the different types of epidemiological studies, to read and to evaluate correctly papers describing epidemiological studies.
To introduce the basic concepts and methodologies of importance in Hygiene and Public Health organization. At the completion of the course students will be able to understand the methods needed to control environmental and communicable hazards in the workplace. Epidemiological studies

Principles of epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases.

Principles of epidemiology and prevention of chronic degenerative diseases, metabolic disorders and disabilities. Impact of lifestyles on health.

Introduction to epidemiology; Principles of demography and statistics: data sources, demographic surveys, demographic and health measures and indicators. Data processing and representation. Epidemiological studies (analytical, descriptive and experimental, reviews and meta-analyzes)
Principles of epidemiology of infectious diseases: transmission of infections (pathogens, reservoirs, , routes of entry and elimination, parasite host relations ...) Natural development of infections
General prevention measures for infectious diseases.
Principles of epidemiology and prevention of chronic degenerative diseases, metabolic disorders and disabilities: etiology of non-infectious diseases, prevention (primary secondary and tertiary), cardiovascular diseases, cancer and diabetes, diseases in the elderly.

Any changes to the methods described here, which are necessary to ensure the application of the safety protocols related to the COVID19 emergency, will be communicated on the Department, Study Program and teaching website

Written examination with multiple-choice and open-ended questions.
Specifically, 15 multiple-choice questions will be asked: two points will be awarded for each correct answer.
The time available to the student will be 40 minutes.
The examination mark will be expressed in thirtieths.

This teaching contributes to the realization of the ONU goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
