- KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: At the end of the course the student must demonstrate knowledge of the diagnostic criteria, characteristics and clinical manifestations of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Being able to draw up the communicative-linguistic profile of the person with ASD taking into account the peculiarities. Know the main rehabilitation methods of ASD: characteristics, and methods of application. Knowing how to set up and implement an effective speech therapy intervention in ASDs also in the network with the other care agencies.
Furthermore, at the end of the course the student will be able to keep in mind the typical development and relate them to the peculiarities of development in ASD frameworks and, considering these characteristics, direct his intervention in the most appropriate way.
- ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: At the end of the course the student must be able to apply the knowledge acquired as in the previous point and take them into consideration during clinical practice. Apply what has been learned and know how to set up and implement the best rehabilitation path (in terms of effectiveness and efficiency) for that subject with ASD. Identifying, among the approaches studied, the one that best meets the needs of the person.
- MAKING JUDGMENTS: At the end of the course the student will be able to demonstrate independence of judgment of the various clinical cases that he will have to deal with being able to discern and identify in the different situations, priorities, needs, etc.
- COMMUNICATION SKILLS: At the end of the course the student must be able to clearly explain the concepts acquired in the first point of this list, but also understand and use the specific vocabulary necessary to describe the clinical cases that he will be faced with and with respect to which he could be useful to share/exchange information with other people (family members, relatives and/or colleagues) using adequate communication.
- LEARNING SKILLS: At the end of the course the student must be able to autonomously deepen the topics covered in self-learning activities, and must also be able to transfer the notions acquired to other relevant teachings/contexts.
Knowledge of the stages of typical child development (neuromotor, cognitive, communicative-linguistic ability) and of the characteristics typically expressed in people with ASD.

1. Autism spectrum disorders: definition, characteristics and clinical manifestations. Description of the clinical pictures and expression profiles of the Disorder.
2. The communicative-linguistic profile in autism spectrum disorders. Phenotypic expression of the picture, characteristics and peculiarities of language and communication.
3. The main rehabilitation methods: ABA, TEACH, DENVER-MODEL. Characteristics of the methods, main useful/necessary strategies within speech therapy treatment.
4. Speech therapy intervention in autism spectrum disorders. Objectives, modalities, methods, strategies.
Frontal lessons with the support of powerpoint presentations. View clinical case videos, sample reports for case simulations. Discussion and comparison with the students
The evaluation of the student includes an oral test in which through open questions we will try to verify the acquisition of knowledge related to the objectives of the course.
The evaluation is expressed with a vote out of thirty.
The questions posed (from 3 to 5) will allow for the attribution of a grade between 18 (minimal knowledge) and 30 cum laude (excellent knowledge). Not only the aspect of the mere theoretical contents is taken into consideration, but also the technical-specific lexicon used and the demonstrated ability to apply the acquired knowledge to typical clinical cases.
