The course is taught by a lecturer appointed by the Degree Programme Board.
The teaching regulations of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Speech and Language Therapy, in accordance with current regulations and based on the study plan, establish that the curricular internship consists of 60 CFU (1500 hours), distributed as follows:
- 425 hours (17 CFU) in the 1st year
- 550 hours (22 CFU) in the 2nd year
- 525 hours (21 CFU) in the 3rd year
As part of the educational and training programme, the curricular internship provides students with the ideal context for understanding and learning vocational skills, which are essential for professional practice, in line with the professional profile of the speech and language therapist and the code of ethics.
The structure of the internship follows a goal-oriented pathway, allowing students to develop clinical, practical, communication, relational, and management skills that integrate and enhance theoretical learning, while also offering the opportunity to test their practical applicability.
The training projects related to the different internship activities are developed in agreement with the internship tutors and are structured according to the Dublin Descriptors, with different objectives and methods for each of the three years of study, as well as for each host institution. Specifically, the cross-disciplinary objectives for each year of study include:
- 1st year: Knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of speech and language therapy
- 2nd year: Ability to apply knowledge and comprehension of the professional approach in speech and language assessment
- 3rd year: Ability to apply knowledge and comprehension (professional identity, adoption of professional behaviours) in speech and language therapy management
