Syllabus

Dublin criteria Knowledge and understanding Students are expected to acquire specific and targeted knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the female genital apparatus in the various ages of life. Knowledge and understanding applied Students should be able to apply their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to understand the pathogenesis of the main pathologies of the female genital system, with particular reference to pelvic floor pathology and pelvic pain syndromes. Making judgements Students should be able to use the acquired knowledge to provide guidance to women on how to recognise endometriosis, recognise and prevent pelvic floor dysfunction, recognise the symptoms and signs of menopause and its complications. Communication skills At the end of the course, students should be able to correctly communicate information related to care issues in obstetrics and gynaecology, with particular regard to physiological and pathological changes in the female genital system. Ability to learn At the end of the course, students should have developed the necessary skills to undertake further studies and specialisation with a high degree of autonomy.

Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the genital system

The course aims to deal with physiological and pathological changes in the female genital system at different ages of life and how these affect women's health. Changes in the pelvic floor that cause urinary incontinence are treated. Also covered are methods of contraception, infertility, endometriosis, and infectious and inflammatory pathology. Upon completion of the course, the student should have knowledge of what changes in the female genital system are responsible for the most frequent diseases of the female genital system. The student should be able to evaluate the causes of urinary incontinence and pelvic pain and know their medical and surgical treatment. The student should have knowledge of how menopause affects the female body.

The final assessment involves a written examination in which 33 questions with multiple answers are proposed. The examination is based on the entire course programme. The time available is 45 minutes. The grade is expressed in thirtieths. One point is awarded for each correct answer and 0 points for an incorrect or missing answer. Grades are awarded as follows - 30 with honours: the student has answered more than 30 questions correctly. Lower marks correspond to the number of correctly answered questions.
