KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Describe the structure of an operating room, through its essential components;
Know the skills and responsibilities of care, also in relation to the professional figures operating in the operating room;
Acquire the basic notions regarding the preparation of the anesthetic and surgical equipment;
Know the concepts of: Asepsis, Disinfection, Sterilization, Cleaning and the waste management process;
Know the regulatory aspects;
Recognize the potential risks that can compromise patient safety.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Recognize and evaluate the needs and requirements of the patient in all operative phases.
Knowing how to argue about the general principles of the different types of anesthesia, their phases, indications and possible complications;
Knowing how to identify the necessary material in the individual anesthetic techniques.
Be able to perform the proper monitoring that the patient requires
Define the assistance activities in the surgical and peri-operative phases (preparation of the operating room and specific instruments);
Being able to know and recognize the objectives for safety in the operating room and decline them in the various operating phases
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
Making decisions in relation to the patient's clinical situation.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Use appropriate skills and methods of communication
LEARNING ABILITY
Develop independent study skills.
Demonstrate the ability to raise doubts and tolerate uncertainties arising from study and practical activity by asking suitable and relevant questions to resolve them.

- Anesthetic and peri-operative nursing assistance
- Clinical - assistance documentation: informed surgical and anesthetic consent, preoperative checklist and care record at postoperative awakening (Aldrete criteria)
Risk management and safety in the operating room:
- The sixteen objectives for safety in the operating room
- Ministerial Check List: evaluation and interpretation
- Adverse events and continuous improvement: incident reporting, sentinel event, adverse events and reactions and integrated registry of anomalies
Nursing in open and minimally invasive surgery:
- Description and discussion of the surgical instruments;
- Sutures and surgical needles: classifications.
- Skin preparation and correct management of the positioning of the patient on the operating bed
Sterilization and management of medical devices: skills and responsibilities
Face-to-face lessons and analysis/discussion of illustrative cases.
Reception of students: reception before and between lessons, or by appointment.
