Structured into the following modules:
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Identifying relevant data for a complete and in-depth assessment of physical status and care needs. Knowing the profiles of normality and abnormality in the various areas of the assessment and in relation to the individual characteristics of the assisted person. Knowing how to make inferences on data and between acquired data. Defining the characteristics identifying the presence of pathological conditions and the need for nursing care. Knowing the care procedures suitable for the management of the care problems identified.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Implementing a systematic approach to the person allowing at identificating the possible conditions of illness and need for nursing care, describing the rational basis of clinical-diagnostic reasoning. Choosing the most effective or appropriate care procedures based on the clinical situation and/or patient preferences.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
Expressing the nursing diagnosis as a clinical judgment through a correct and complete diagnostic reasoning based on the assessment data (clinical, instrumental and laboratory semeiotics, life history, emotional and psychological conditions) and on the knowledge of pathology, pathophysiology and clinical nursing acquired so far.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Knowing and using a correct and appropriate technical-professional terminology to describe the health problems highlighted, the objectives set and the actions taken.
LEARNING ABILITY
Preparing the exam by planning and managing the study individually based on the content of the lessons, the teaching material delivered and the sources suggested for further study.
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, general pathology clinical pathology, cultural anthropology.
The course is preparatory for the exam “Internship activities and cognitive tutoring 1”. For students enrolled from the academic year 2024/2025, the course is also preparatory for “General Nursing 3” of the 2nd year.
General principles and methodology of nursing approach (steps of the nursing process)
Assessment of the health status of the patient
- Family, anamnesis, functional status, analysis of lifestyles and relationships network
- Assessment tools: active listening, observation, physical examination (chest and heart, abdomen and liver, nervous system, thyroid, urogenital system) and vital signs, diagnostic reasoning, correlation between assessment data, pathologies and nursing needs.
Nursing diagnoses, nursing outcomes and nursing procedures in the areas of: coping and stress tolerance; intestinal and urinary elimination; sleep and rest; respiratory and cardio-circulatory function; hygiene and integumentary integrity; nutrition and hydration; activity and movement.

Frontal lesson, group work and sharing in plenary, discussion of clinical-assistance cases, simulations, viewing of films and guided discussion.
The assessment is aimed at ascertaining the achievement of the expected learning outcomes defined with the Dublin descriptors. The assessment takes place through an oral exam, carried out in a joint session, on the entire program of the integrated course of General Nursing 2, which includes the modules of Semeiotics, Nursing Procedures 1 and 2 and Clinical Methodology. Depending on the number of students enrolled in the same session, the exams can be scheduled over several days.
The oral test takes place through an interview with the teachers, lasting on average approximately 30 minutes, with the aim of verifying the level of knowledge of the program topics, the level of mastery of specialist language and the ability to develop reasoning applying theoretical knowledge. The criteria adopted for evaluating the oral exam are the following:
Insufficient: Little or no knowledge and understanding of the topics; limited capacity for analysis and synthesis, frequent generalizations of the required contents; inability to use technical language.
18-20: Just enough knowledge and understanding of topics, with obvious imperfections; just sufficient capacity for analysis, synthesis and independent judgement; poor ability to use technical language.
21-23: Sufficient knowledge and understanding of topics; sufficient capacity for analysis and synthesis with the ability to logically and coherently argue the required contents; sufficient ability to use technical language.
24-26: Fair knowledge and understanding of the topics; fair capacity for analysis and synthesis with the ability to rigorously argue the required contents; fair ability to use technical language.
27-29: Good knowledge and understanding of required content; good capacity for analysis and synthesis with the ability to rigorously argue the required contents; good ability to use technical language.
30-30 and “lode”: Excellent level of knowledge and understanding of the requested contents with an excellent capacity for analysis and synthesis with the ability to argue the requested contents in a rigorous, innovative and original way; excellent ability to use technical language.
