Non-competitive admission with initial proficiency assessment (TOLC or CENT)
A test is not required for enrolment, but the course requires an initial proficiency assessment (TOLC or CENT)

Within deadlines
Access the Online Student Service (Esse3)
- Start the procedure for enrolment applications
Menu > Home > Enrolment
- Complete the required fields and upload the necessary documents:
- Valid identity document in PDF format (front and back)
If you log in using SPID, this will not be required - Supplementary enrolment form (at the bottom of this page)
- Passport-sized photo in JPEG format, NO SELFIES (refer to the requirements)
- Residence permit or proof of application (for non-EU citizens only)
- Valid identity document in PDF format (front and back)
- Pay the first instalment of university fees. This confirms your pre-enrolment.
Within 2 working days of payment, the university's digital services will be activated, limited to Microsoft Teams, to enable access to lectures.
- Wait for the confirmation email
Within a few days, you will receive an email confirming your enrolment. Your student number will then be visible in your Reserved Area on Esse3.
Within two working days of receiving confirmation of your enrolment, you will have full access to the University's digital services (including your institutional email account and the MyUniTS app).
- If you have yet to obtain the required qualification
If you have yet to obtain the required qualification, please start the enrolment procedure regardless, and pay the first instalment of fees. This will allow you to attend classes and give you access to the UniTS e-Learning content.
Within 15 days of receiving your official exam results, you must re-enter the online procedure and enter the missing data.
Enrolment will be finalised, and you will receive your student ID number only after you have graduated and provided the complete documentation.
To enrol in this programme, you must meet the following requirements:
- Educational qualification: you must hold an upper secondary school diploma or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad
- If you hold a foreign qualification, consult the information dedicated to International Students to verify the validity of your qualification and specific admission requirements
- Proficiency in science and mathematics: You must have basic scientific and mathematical knowledge and skills, in particular in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, knowledge of the concept of a mathematical function and its graphical representation.
Language Skills
Knowledge of English at a minimum B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is required to successfully attend the programme. Such knowledge can be demonstrated:
- By having an appropriate language certification
- By taking the tests organised by the CLA (University Language Centre)
- If you have yet to obtain the required qualification
You can request an assessment of your preparation even if you have not yet obtained the required qualification.
CENT-S
To enrol in this programme, you are required to take a mandatory assessment test called CENT-S, organised by CISIA (Interuniversity Consortium for Integrated Access Systems). This test assesses your knowledge in some scientific subjects (e.g. mathematics).
The test is not selective. This means that enrollment is possible with any score. If you get a score that is less of 18 you will be assigned additional learning activities to help you close any serious knowledge gap (see below PASSING THE TEST). To take the CENT-S test, you must register via the CISIA website.
- Who needs to take the test?
The CENT-S test is mandatory for enrollment, but is not selective. The scores will be used to assign support teaching activites.
You do not have to take the test if you already possess a bachelor or master degree.
- Structure of the test
The test consists of 55 questions, divided into 5 sections:
- Mathematics
- Reasoning on texts and data
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Passing the test
The test is not selective. If you totalize a score of less than 18 points, you will be assigned an Additional Learning Requirement (OFA) and you you will have to attend first-year tutoring activities. The Additional Learning Requirements is fulfilled by attending at least 50% of the tutoring activities.
Formats, dates and registration
You can take the test at any University and it will also be valid for the University of Trieste. The CENT-S test should be taken before kick-off of 2026/2027 a.y. classes, which will happen in the second half of September 2026. Note that also English TOLC-I tests taken in 2025 will be considered valid.
