The quest for Sustainable Development demands geoscientists. ESSD focuses on the themes of georesources and geohazard, key areas of action to secure a sustainable future and leverages Trieste’s unique academic environment, made of a solid tradition in research and teaching, and a network of international institutions that operate in Geosciences.

Educational objectives
ESSD is fully taught in English. Students will acquire a sound knowledge in the core disciplines of Geosciences and specific skills in the fields of georesources and geohazard in connection with sustainable development. The goal is training graduates that will be ready to enter the global job market or to pursue more advanced studies.

Career prospects
ESSD trains graduates to work in industry and national/international organizations in fields such as: retrieval of georesources (e.g. water, minerals, energy) and their sustainable exploitation and management; assessment, prevention and mitigation of geohazards. Furthermore, graduates will be entitled to pursue higher-level education.

Final examination and degree
The final degree is a BSc (110-point scale), recognized at national and international level. The final exam entails the production of a written thesis in English and its defence in front of a faculty committee. The final exam includes an internship or traineeship (as per study plan).
