Structured into the following modules:

Syllabus

D1. Knowledge and understanding: At the end of the course the student must demonstrate knowledge of the etiopathogenesis and clinical semiotics and provide the diagnosis of dental pathologies susceptible to exodontic treatment; know the differential diagnostics for the conservative treatment aimed at the recovery of the tooth. As well as the etiopathogenesis and clinical semeiotics and provide the diagnosis of pathologies of the esophagus, gastric, acute and chronic pathologies of the intestine, pathologies of the gallbladder, abdominal wall, thyroid and breast. Celiac-mesenteric insufficiency and the clinical, hemodynamic and treatment characteristics of shock.

D2. Ability to apply knowl avulsion of an intact tooth and the removal of fractured roots. Knowing how to carry out an objective examination of the districts inherent in the General Surgery program and indicate the most suitable instrumental tests to obtain the diagnosis.
D3. Making judgements: At the end of the course the student will be able to judge the diagnostic, clinical, classification and operative elements for the resolution of surgical problems. Knowing how to conduct the clinical approach to a patient with surgical problems, how to prepare a patient for surgery, how to prevent and then, possibly, deal with the complications of the surgery are skills that must form part of the professional baggage of these students not only from a theoretical point of view but above all from a practical point of view. The principles of surgery are in fact common to all anatomical districts.
For the same reason, the ability to judge the implications that infections, neoplastic diseases and traumas in general may have in the surgical field is considered necessary.
Finally, the ability to propose ideas and solutions on the main pathologies of surgical interest, on the methods of their diagnosis, definition of severity, prognosis and therapy is considered useful. In fact, the involvement of the oral cavity occurs in many mainly surgical diseases, and an adequate diagnostic and therapeutic procedure can only be started thanks to a precise knowledge of these pathologies.
D4. Communication skills: At the end of the course the student must be able to clearly explain the concepts acquired in point D1, be able to describe the individual surgical techniques and general information on flaps and sutures, know and know how to use general and special dental surgical instruments. Correctly expose the preparatory notions of topographic anatomy, the current diagnostic guidelines aimed at recognizing the main clinical and radiological lesions of the maxillofacial apparatus. Describe the surgical techniques, knowing how to formulate a treatment plan, knowing its indications and contraindications, recognizing and describing the principles of therapy of complications in surgery, knowing pharmacological therapy, knowing how to provide indications for correct behavior in the post-operative period to the prevention of complications.
D5. Learning ability: At the end of the course the student must be able to independently explore the topics covered, and must also be able to transfer the notions learned in subsequent courses. Furthermore, the knowledge of issues related to neoplastic diseases will hopefully help spread clear and strong messages in the community that can help prevent and cure them early. Finally, it should not be overlooked, also on the basis of the close relationship of trust that is established between the dentist and his patient, that a serious professional cannot lack that health information which can be precious for the patient and rewarding for those who work in this area of health.

The exam is based on the whole program of the course. The knowledge acquired will be verified through a written exam with multiple choice and open questions. The evaluation grid adopted is the following: - Excellent (30 - 30 cum laude): excellent knowledge of the topics, excellent language skills, excellent analytical skills; the student is able to brilliantly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. - Very good (27 - 29): good knowledge of the topics, remarkable language skills, good analytical skills; the student is able to correctly apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. - Good (24-26): good knowledge of the main topics, good command of the language; the student shows an adequate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. - Satisfactory (21-23): the student does not show full mastery of the main subjects of the teaching, even if he/she possesses the fundamental knowledge; however, she shows satisfactory language skills and sufficient ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. - Sufficient (18-20): minimal knowledge of the main teaching topics and technical language, limited ability to adequately apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases. - Insufficient: the student does not have an acceptable knowledge of the contents of the various topics of the programme.
A single final test in which knowledge and skills relating to all modules are ascertained, even if assigned to different teachers (with respect for the teaching load which must be proportionate to the CFU)

This course explores topics closely related to one or more goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
