The course aims to acquire:

1) Knowledge and understanding skills: a thorough knowledge of the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, treatment and prognosis of diseases of the oro-maxillofacial district and systemic diseases that may involve the oral cavity.

2) Applied knowledge and comprehension skills: acquiring the theoretical basis to know how to use and read data from the main diagnostic, instrumental and laboratory examinations, and intra- and extra-oral objective examination.

3) Autonomy of judgment, acquiring one's own integrated vision of pathologies of the oral cavity that, starting from the assumption that many of them may represent the localization of systemic pathologies, leads to a unified, albeit articulated, conception of the state of health, with the ability to foresee the realistic consequences of the simplest pathological situations and to know how to manage them from a diagnostic and therapeutic point of view.

4) Communication skills, getting used to exposition, in the classroom, of the concepts required by the lecturer, in a stimulating and interactive teaching environment. Students will always be urged to keep in mind the need for scientifically rigorous exposition and communication with colleagues and simple, yet comprehensive, with patients and their families. They will be stimulated to express themselves in correct and essential language.

5) Ability to learn: during the lectures, reference will mainly be made to the recommended text (Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 5th edition, Neville et al.), but students will be counsel to consult others, citing the sources of the information presented. The topics covered will always be approached from different points of view so that the student can form a clear and complete opinion.

In-depth knowledge of biology and genetics, histology, human and dental anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pathology and pathophysiology, pharmacology, pathological anatomy, diagnostic imaging and psychiatry. In order to take the examination, the student must have passed the following integrated courses included in the syllabus: C.I. Pathological Anatomy, C.I. Anaesthesiology and Pharmacology, C.I. Medical and Surgical Sciences, C.I. Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy, C.I. Neurology and Psychiatry.

The course content covers the aetiopathogenesis, clinical and instrumental diagnostic framing and therapy of oral diseases of genetic, reactive, infectious, autoimmune and neoplastic aetiology.
In addition, the main pathologies affecting multidistrict and that can give oral manifestations (dermatological, rheumatological, metabolic, solid neoplastic and haematological diseases), as well as oral lesions and complications induced by topical and systemic pharmacological treatments will be treated.

Conventional lectures.
Any changes to the methods described herein, which may be necessary to ensure the application of COVID19 emergency-related safety protocols, will be communicated on the DSM, Course of Study and teaching websites.

Lessons will be recorded and stored on Teams platform.

Students must sit the individual partial examinations on the dates scheduled in the Degree Course examination calendar. In particular, the performance of partial examinations, the results of which must be published using the "Partial examinations" IT tool provided by the Esse3 platform, and will be recorded in a single final appeal in which the Commission proceeds to verify the overall results of the integrated course and to record them. The student must register for the online appeal of the partial examination on ESSE3. The grade for the partial examination will be considered valid until the extraordinary session of the academic year in question. In order to pass the examination relating to the teaching course, the student must obtain a grade of ≥ 18 in each of the partial examinations; he/she may not reject the result of the partial examination, but only the grade for the entire integrated course and, in this case, he/she must repeat all the partial examinations.
The final mark for the integrated course examination is derived from the weighted average, thus weighted on the CFUs of each module, obtained in the individual partial tests. For the purposes of defining the average, any honours obtained in the partial examinations will be assigned the value of 1 point, i.e. a mark of 30 with honours in the partial examinations corresponds numerically to a mark of 31. In order to assign honours to the final examination mark, it will be necessary for the weighted average obtained by the student in the partial examinations relating to the various modules to be >30,5.

The examination is based on the entire course programme.
Verification of the knowledge acquired will be carried out by means of an oral examination.
The evaluation grid adopted is as follows:
- Excellent (30 - 30 cum laude): very good knowledge of the topics, very good ownership of language, very good analytical skills; the student is able to apply theoretical knowledge brilliantly to concrete cases.
- Very good (27 - 29): good knowledge of the subject matter, remarkable command of language, good analytical ability; the student is able to apply theoretical knowledge correctly to concrete cases.
- Good (24-26): good knowledge of the main topics, fair language skills; the student shows an adequate ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Satisfactory (21-23): the student does not show full mastery of the main topics of the course, even though he/she possesses the fundamental knowledge; however, he/she shows satisfactory properties of language and sufficient ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete cases.
- Sufficient (18-20): minimal knowledge of the main teaching topics and technical language, limited ability to apply theoretical knowledge adequately to concrete cases.
- Insufficient: the student does not possess an acceptable knowledge of the content of the different topics of the syllabus.

This teaching explores topics closely related to one or more of the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
