Basic chemistry and physics
Introduction to the air pollution: atmospheric composition, natural and anthropogenic sources of pollutants.
Natural purification processes: heat, lapse rates, pressure, wind, relative humidity, plume behaviour.
Dispersion models; fixed box model and Gaussian model.
Control devices for particulate contaminants; Stokes law, gravitational settling chambers, centrifugal collectors, fabric filters, electrostatic precipitators.
Control devices for gaseous contaminants: wet scrubbers, dry scrubbers, roto-concentration system, adsorption, condensation, combustion, biofiltration.
